Baked Mac and Cheese

Always a family favorite, macaroni and cheese is the classic comfort food that’s easily prepared!

  • Yields: 4-6 Servings


8 oz. Mueller's Elbows

2 tbsp corn starch

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp dry mustard

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

3 cups milk

2 tbsp butter or margarine

2 cups shredded American or cheddar cheese, divided


1Preheat oven to 375°F.

2Cook pasta for only 6 minutes. Drain well.

3Combine cornstarch, salt, dry mustard & pepper in medium saucepan. Over medium-high heat, stir in milk until smooth. Add butter, stirring constantly.

4Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil 1 minute.

5Remove from heat. Stir in 1-3/4 cups cheese until melted. Add cooked pasta.

6Pour into greased 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

7Bake uncovered 25 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165-175 degrees.

Cook’s Tip

Sprinkle bread crumbs or crushed salad croutons on top of the cheese for a more traditional, crunchy macaroni and cheese.

Stir bacon, diced ham, or other add-ins into the mixture before transferring it to the casserole dish for a twist on a classic.

This is the recipe my mother used to make mac n cheese. She would add a can of flaked tuna for a Friday night dinner when Catholics were not allowed to eat meat on fridays. It is delicious.
